Indian History Congress, the most prestigious group of historians in India has announced its official first circular regarding its official date and place with its selected general and sectional presidents for the 84th session .

IHC was founded in 1935 and now stands as the largest association of professional historians in South Asia. Its official website claims to have approximately 35,000 members, over 2,000 delegates actively participate in its sessions annually and association has consistently organised sessions and published proceedings each year.
A. Venue of the 84th Session :
in 2025, the conference will be going to organize at Government Brennen College in Kannur (Kerala) from 28th to 30th of December and this is not the first time when IHC will organize in Kerla. In 2016 the conference was held In Thiruvananthapuram.
B. Designated President for the Session :
Like every year, these are the presidents for the session.

C. Membership :
IHC has mainly 4 type of membership.
Types of Membership
1. Initial Ordinary Membership

- Eligibility: Open to individuals with a minimum academic qualification of a Master’s degree in History or Archaeology. Those without this degree must provide proof of at least one publication in a peer-reviewed journal on a historical theme.

- The application must be proposed and seconded by two existing IHC members (Ordinary or Life Members). Applicants need to upload the details of these members, including their membership numbers, via the Initial Referral Form available on the IHC website.

- If currently enrolled in a Master’s, MPhil, PhD, or Post-Doctoral program, applicants must submit proof of enrollment.

- Student Members (those enrolled in a Master’s program) can attend sessions but cannot present papers.

- Complete the online application form on the IHC website. Multiple submissions result in rejection and forfeiture of fees.

- Pay the Initial Membership Fee (exact amount not specified in recent sources, check the official website for updates).

- The Secretary’s office reviews the application, and upon approval, issues an Initial Membership Receipt.

2. Renewal of Ordinary Membership

- Eligibility: For existing members renewing their annual membership.

3. Life Membership

- Eligibility: Available to Ordinary Members who have renewed their membership for three consecutive years.

- Fee: ₹7,500/- for the 84th session (excluding payment gateway charges), payable in one sum. Confirm the current fee on the IHC website.

- Use the online Life Membership Form on the IHC website. Offline methods are not accepted.

4. Institutional Membership

- Eligibility: Open to academic institutions.

- Benefits: Institutions can depute a representative to participate in the annual session and receive the Proceedings volume.

- New institutions must complete the Initial Institutional Membership Form, including a Letter of Application on the institution’s official letterhead.

- Payment is made online after Secretary approval, using UPI/QR Code, Debit/Credit Card, Net-Banking, or Digital Wallets.

D. Research Paper
There are six sections in the annual session of the Indian History Congress, where papers will be
presented simultaneously, namely:
I. Ancient India
II. Medieval India
III. Modern India
IV. Countries other than India
V. Archaeology
VI. Contemporary India (covers the period since 1947)
Members are kindly requested to submit their papers only through the PAPER SUBMISSION PORTAL on the official website (the portal will open on 15th October, 2025)
